ZenRobotics now sorts bags

Helsinki-based ZenRobotics says its ZenRobotics Recycler (ZRR) now not only sorts construction and demolition (C&D) debris but also offers a solution for municipal solid waste (MSW): bag sorting for source-separated MSW.

The company’s first step toward the MSW market is a ZRR that picks plastic bags weighing as much as 30 kilograms (66 pounds) by color. The ZRR also makes it easy to recover unopened bags from other loose MSW, the company says.

As a bag sorting application, a ZRR3 recovers up to 18 fractions in one spot in a single pass, using three successive arms, according to ZenRobotics. The system can do a positive, a negative or a hybrid sort, with throughput of up to 50 metric tons (55 short tons) per hour.

Lytx products provide fleet operations managers video evidence

San Diego-based Lytx, a provider of video options for commercial and government fleets, says it is making it possible for fleet and operations managers to virtually be in a vehicle or in the field with its new Lytx Video Services.

Lytx Video Services, a combination of an event recorder and video cameras—all cloud-connected—are designed to eliminate fleet and operations blind spots.

The video evidence Lytx Video Services provides can be useful in a variety of ways, the company says, including:

  • to help companies evaluate driving and nondriving processes and procedures to improve operational effectiveness;
  • to provide proof or confirmation of the true story, such as load delivery; and
  • to help reveal revenue-generating opportunities or opportunities to improve customer service.

The company says Lytx Video Services will be available in the first quarter of 2018.

LA County selects BHS for new MRF

The Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County (LACSD) has selected Bulk Handling Systems (BHS), Eugene, Oregon, to design, manufacture and install a new material recovery facility (MRF) system at its Puente Hills Materials Recovery Facility. The system will process commercial and residential streams—including dry commercial waste, municipal solid waste (MSW), multifamily MSW and single-stream recyclables—and increase the districts’ processing capacity to 600 tons per day, BHS says.

The system is designed to provide the flexibility to process various input streams while maximizing recovery and end product quality. The equipment includes a Max-AI Autonomous QC (AQC) in a quality control role on the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) that is recovered by the system’s NRT SpydIR-T optical sorter.
